The 2013 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series heads east this weekend to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is just outside of Dallas. This is the first stadium of 2013 with an open dome, meaning weather will have an impact on the race.

Carrying a 19-point lead into round seven at Arlington Saturday evening is Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps. The RM-Z450 rider is coming off his second win of the 2013 SX season, Millsaps winning last weekend’s San Diego round ahead of Muscle Milk Honda’s Justin Barcia and Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, respectively.

Following his win at the season opener in Anaheim, Millsaps has led the point battle through all six of 17 rounds.

At San Diego, Millsaps got off the line quickly with Dodge/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing Suzuki’s Broc Tickle and TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed. He had the lead after turn one, and never looked back, riding 20 clean laps en route to the win.

Davi Millsaps (Rockstar Energy Suzuki RM-Z450 Supercross) says: “What can I say, when you’re able to pull the holeshot and ride 20 clean laps you make life a lot easier on yourself. It’s been a great start to the season and everyone is working hard to make this happen. You have to be there every week in order to have a chance to win this thing (the championship), and we’re doing our best to keep it out front.”

As for the two-time defending 450 SX champion, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto finished sixth at San Diego. At last year’s Cowboys Stadium Supercross event, Villopoto took his third win of the season.
With six of 17 rounds completed, Millsaps holds a 19-point lead over Dungey, with Villopoto a further 27 points back in third.

Besides the 450 SX, action, Arlington also begins the 2013 Eastern Regional 250 SX Class Championship. The Western Regional 250 SX Class  will now break from competition until April 20 in Seattle. At San Diego, GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac took the win, his fourth of the 2013 Western SX season.
At last year’s Cowboys Stadium 250 SX event, the eventual champion Barcia – then riding for GEICO Honda – took his first win of the season.

Since Monster Energy Supercross first debuted at Cowboys Stadium in 2010, an average of 51,500 fans have packed the stadium each year to watch their favorite riders battle for the top spot. 2013 will be the 33rd time the gates will drop for a 450SX Class race in the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. It will also be the 28th time the riders will line up at the starting gate for an Eastern Regional 250SX Class race, Feld Motor Sports reports.

Monster Energy Supercross has a storied history in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with the first-ever supercross race being held in Dallas on March 1, 1975, just a year after the sport’s beginning. From 1983-2008, Texas Stadium hosted 26-consecutive Monster Energy Supercross races and is regarded as one of the sport’s most historical cities having hosted, Feld Motor Sports reports.
